Snail mucin (snail secretion filtrate) became popular in skincare largely through Korean beauty brands in the 2010s and contains glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, and glycolic acid, ingredients with independently documented moisturizing and mild exfoliating properties in dermatology. Direct clinical trials on snail mucin itself, as opposed to its individual constituent compounds, remain limited compared to the broader hyaluronic acid or glycolic acid literature.
Snail mucin is the secretion snails produce for hydration, protection and movement, mostly collected non-lethally from farmed land snails (often Cornu aspersum) as they crawl.
